Scholarship Programme 1:

  • Be a current resident of a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, or Latin America.
  • Have a university diploma and work experience in their home country.
  • Plan to pursue a Master’s degree, PhD, or other postgraduate studies at a German university, or plan a post-doc or research stay (2-6 months for academics).
  • Be Catholic or belong to a Christian denomination in general, especially if they are from the Near and Middle East. Other religious applicants may be considered if they are proposed by Catholic partners and are willing to engage in interreligious dialogue.
  • Prior to admission, you must be fluent in German. KAAD may offer a six-week German language course.

Scholarship Programme 2:

  • Applicants must be from a developing or emerging African, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Latin American country.
  • You must be a current student in Germany with at least 10 months of study left.
  • Must intend to pursue a Master’s degree (application possible in the final semesters of a Bachelor’s degree), a Diplom or Magister degree (application possible as soon as the intermediate examination or Vordiplom is completed), or a PhD at a German higher education institution.
  • They must be Catholic or belong to a Christian denomination, especially if they are from the Near and Middle East. Applicants of other faiths may be supported if they are recommended by Catholic partners and are willing to engage in interreligious dialogue.
  • Must have knowledge of the German language at least at a communication level.

Eastern Europe Programme:

  • Applicants from Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus are eligible.
  • Applicants must be Catholic (in exceptional cases, applicants of another Christian denomination may be considered if they are proposed by Catholic partners).
  • The applicant’s home country is not a deciding factor for eligibility as long as they meet the other criteria.
